Random Tips for Everything
This is a large assortment of various tips and tricks that help with everyday life. The list is constantly being added to, and hopefully something on here will help you.
- When you have a stomach ache, try to breathe more, not less.
It's common that when someone feels that stab of pain, they'll hold their breath. It actually helps your stomach calm down and feel better if you breathe steadily and deeply.
- If your hands ever go numb, don't wear hair ties on your wrists.
I know from experience; even if you think a hair tie is loose, sometimes they can still mess up circulation, especially if you sleep with them on.
- If you're trying to set fire to something, don't use a magnifying glass.
Unless you really have the time, or if there's nothing else to use. Matches and lighters really do work better.
- Get a DVR and tape your late night shows to get more sleep.
It'll pay off in the end if you watch shows at night often. You'll get more rest, and won't miss any important series goings-on.
- Always think before you hit the send button.
It's more important than you'd think. When you send an email, someone could show it to whoever they want. Imagine whatever you are sending is being posted on a billboard.
- Don't treat your pets like humans.
The fact is, they aren't. A dog is happier when they get to be a dog, not a tiny person. Don't paint their toenails, or dress them. Instead, use exercise, discipline, affection, in that order.
- Narrate the moment descriptively.
It'll improve your writing skills, murder writers block, and also make you think more about what you are doing. (Silent narration is probably best.)
- When you finish a page of a book, guess the first word that will be on the following page.
It forces you to think, and comprehend what you are reading. It's also just a fun game.
- Don't wait to call people back.
Your real life friends matter more than whatever else; don't return your blog comments, or make a burrito, before calling back someone you care about.
- Read the book before watching the movie.
Always.
- Never wash reds and whites together in hot water.
Unless you enjoy wearing pink clothes that are a few sizes too small. Maroon rugs are also included under "reds".
